Poor regulation key to airlines’ financial woes

The European Commission is not adhering to its own principles of good governance to the detriment of Europe’s airlines and the communities they serve. Airlines can no longer financially sustain the impact of poor regulation emanating from the European Commission (EC) and other European regulatory bodies.

MONTREAL: New destination for the Air France A380

Travelport Launches New Leisure Portal for Travel Agents

Travelport, the business services provider to the global travel industry, operating both the Galileo and Worldspan global distribution systems (GDS), today announces details of its new, one stop leisure portal for travel agents. Known as Travelport Leisure, the new travel trade portal is an upgraded version of its former Galileo Leisure portal which was first launched in 2005. The GDS provider took the decision to invest further in its Galileo Leisure offering in response to the ongoing growth potential of global leisure travel spend which is expected to reach around $700bn by 2014*.

Lufthansa Supervisory Board approves Group’s order for 48 new aircraft

The Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG approved the order of 48 new aircraft for the Group at its meeting. Of these new aircraft, eight Airbus A330-300, equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent700 engines, will be deployed on long-haul routes and the remaining 40 aircraft will be deployed in continental traffic.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has again revised its industry outlook, expecting the world’s airlines to post profits of US$8.9 billion in 2010, as the industry recovers faster than anticipated.

U.S. INTERNATIONAL AIR TRAVEL ABROAD UP 8% IN MAY 2010

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that U.S. outbound non-stop air passenger traffic totaled 3.6 million in May 2010, increasing eight percent compared to May 2009 and registering the fifth month over month increase since December 2009.
