In Germany this sector is a mainstay of the economy and one of the country’s biggest employers. With Germany now attracting more and more domestic and foreign travellers the travel industry offers a wide range of career opportunities for newcomers and experienced employees alike.“

Good job prospects at sea

For anyone interested in a career at sea the organisation to contact is the MeerArbeit project, which has been operating throughout Germany and organising jobs with cruise companies since 2005. Employment officers, personnel managers and service providers representing cruise companies such as A-ROSA, Costa, Deilmann and Sea Chefs will have information for visitors in Hall 5.1. For the first time the organisers of MeerArbeit will be offering visitors a special opportunity at ITB Berlin to find out directly about life on board. Visitors can inspect a river boat, the MS Sanssouci, at the show in Berlin, where they can apply directly for a job in catering. Those interested can register at www.meerarbeit.de or bring their application and references along to Stand 101 in Hall 5.1.

On 8 March 2013 at 6.30 p.m., on the stage in Hall 5.1, the exhibitors in the hall will be putting an item up for auction which can be bid for by anyone present. The proceeds will be donated to a charity project in Indonesia, the partner country of this year’s ITB. The party following the event will provide students with an opportunity to exchange views and establish contacts. The ITB Student Auction is organised and held by a student group of the Ostfalia Hochschule for Applied Sciences and by Robert Port, head of the event organisers TRY !T.
