Eurowings held a press conference on the new routes this afternoon in Athens. Representing the Ministry of Tourism, the event was honored by the presence of Mr. Giorgos Tziallas, Secretary-General of Tourism Policy and Development.

As Eurowings continues to expand its network, Europe’s fastest growing airline is launching 16 new routes to/from Greece this summer, offering 66 routes in total to the Hellenic Republic. Corfu, Heraklion & Kos are getting four new routes, Rhodes three and Zakynthos one new route. Furthermore Eurowings is increasing frequencies on 6 existing routes to Greece this summer. Therefore, Eurowings will grow by 40% this year in Greece, transporting more than 1.4m passengers and delivering more than 300,000 additional tourists to Greece.

All new Eurowings routes are already on sale on www.eurowings.com or via the Eurowings app. There is also the option on the website to book budget package holidays through the Eurowings Holidays tour operator. These combine the new flight options with attractive hotel offers.

Markus Leopold, Senior Regional Manager at Eurowings:

We are delighted to grow by such a significant number in Greece this year. By transporting 1.4m passengers and delivering more than 300,000 additional tourists to Greece this year we are securing more than 1,000 jobs in the country.

Ivan Orec, Senior Manager Network Development:

We will continue to grow our traffic in Greece, not only during the peak summer months, but also during the whole year, including winter. As we are becoming one of the biggest European low cost carriers, Greece will remain one of our top markets and these trends will continue in the upcoming periods.

Mr. Giorgos Tzillas, General Secretary of Tourism Policy and Development noted “Greece is among the top destinations that Germans choose for their holidays. It is a great pleasure for us to see that major airlines with high growth, such as Eurowings, trust the tourist product of Greece and invest in our country, thus contributing to the growth of our tourism”.
