Travel firm Sun4U collapses, stranding passengers

Travel firm Sun4U collapsesBritish travel firm Sun4U has collapsed, leaving over a thousand holidaymakers stranded abroad.

A message on its website said the Birmingham-based company had ceased trading and advised passengers to contact the ABTA Travel Association.

ABTA said around 1,200 Sun4U customers were currently abroad, mainly in Spain.

Sun4U is the second travel firm to go under this summer, after tour operator Goldtrail went into administration in July, just before the start of the peak school summer holiday period.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said it was making arrangements for Sun4U customers on holiday packages protected by Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (ATOL) to complete their holidays and fly home.

Some customers may have to pay for their hotel a second time, the CAA said, but those protected by ATOL would be able to claim this back.

The CAA advised those who have booked a future holiday with Sun4U not to travel, but instead to claim a refund.
