Lufthansa takes part at the “Umami & Sake” culinary eventLufthansa is well-known for taking its clients to new culinary heights since 2000, when its Star Chef program was launched. Your palate will never be jet-lagged on Lufthansa’s long-haul flights, during which Lufthansa’s First and Business class passengers have the opportunity to dine on imaginative menus, created by top chefs from all over the world.

On the 19th, 20th and 21st of July 2011, Lufthansa once again had the chance to participate in a mouth- watering event with a taste of Japan, by supporting the “Umami & Sake” event.

On the route to Japan, First and Business class passengers are taking a first taste of the gastronomical culture of the country, by enjoying exquisite soba and sushi, special sushi selection and other exquisite Japanese dishes. In fact it is Kenichiro Ooe and Stefan Mörth that are preparing exquisite dishes for the passengers in First or Business Class on flights between Frankfurt and Tokyo.

Ooe, who has also cooked for the Japanese imperial family amongst others, will treat you to Far Eastern delicacies. In contrast, Stefan Mörth, originally from Steiermark (Styria) in Austria, creates German dishes.

For First and Business Class passengers flying from Nagoya and Osaka, top chefs Takashi Tanioka from the Hilton Nagoya, and Kotoku Tohbaru from the Hilton Osaka will be serving Western and Japanese food. Takashi Tanioka will spoil you with menus based on classical European cuisine, whilst his colleague, Kotoku Tohbaru, will create culinary highlights from the new Japanese cuisine for you.

In the Munich lounge’s restaurant operated by Sky Chefs, there is a wide selection of meals like sushi, local bio food and international specialties while there are sushi dishes served on routes to North America.

Since January 2000, Lufthansa has taken its First and Business Class passengers to new culinary heights. Imaginative menus, created by top chefs from all over the world, make a Lufthansa flight a truly heavenly experience. To date, such international celebrities as Harald Wohlfahrt (Baiersbronn), Dieter Müller (Bergisch Gladbach), Frank Zlomke (Paarl, South Africa), Daniel Boulud (New York) and Paul Bocuse (Lyon) have been engaged as Lufthansa “Star Chefs”.

Since the beginning of 2005, internationally renowned chefs have created special menus on selected long-haul routes from Germany to reflect the culinary tastes and traditions of the respective destination, carefully selected and exclusive ingredients. He only uses the finest, top-quality products.

Lufthansa flies daily from Frankfurt to Tokyo with the new A380, with A340 to Nagoya and Osaka, and from Munich to Tokyo. Lufthansa also offers code share flights to Japan with ANA, All Nippon Airways, a Star Alliance member.
