Athens International Airport S.A. (AIA) awarded the airlines that recorded the highest passenger development in 2010, during the Airline Marketing Workshop organised by the airport company on an annual basis.
AIA’s 11th Airline Marketing Workshop was held on February 24th, at the Athens Concert Hall, with the participation of 160 airline representatives. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary since airport opening, the 11th Airline Marketing Workshop was highlighted by a historical flashback, taking the airline guests back to the milestones, the special and challenging moments that marked the airport’s 1st decade. Moreover, this year’s workshop presented topics such as the 2010 market overview, IT&T at AIA, and the next decade trends in the airline industry.
As every year, Athens International Airport presented its annual awards to the airlines that demonstrated the fastest development and succeeded in recording the highest increases in passenger numbers in their scheduled services during 2010.
The airline awards, as per respective category, were the following:
A. Best Performing New Airline Award
Etihad Airways was awarded for recording in 2010 the highest passenger traffic numbers, among all newcomers that launched scheduled operations in 2009.
Β. Best of the TOP-10 Airlines Award
Delta Air Lines was awarded as the overall fastest growing airline operating at AIA in 2010, among the 10 airlines that recorded the highest passenger traffic volumes.
C. Fastest Growing Airline in a Thin Route Award
Bulgaria Air received the award for achieving the highest percentage annual passenger growth in 2010.
D. Fastest Growing Airline / Seasonal Routes Award
Norwegian received the award for achieving the highest percentage passenger growth in the summer period of 2010.
E. Fastest Growing Airline Award per geographical region (Highest percentage passenger growth, 2009 – 2010)
Vueling was awarded as the fastest growing airline for Western Europe.
Aeroflot was awarded as the fastest growing airline for Eastern Europe.
Qatar Airways was awarded as the fastest growing airline for the Middle East.
Delta Air Lines was awarded as the fastest growing airline for America.
Thai Airways was awarded as the fastest growing airline for Asia.
Aegean Airlines was awarded as the fastest growing airline for Africa.
Qatar Airways was awarded for presenting the highest passenger volumes increase at Athens International Airport in 2010.
Special Awards 2010
On the occasion of the airport’s 10th anniversary, 3 special awards were also given to the airlines that handled the largest number of passengers to/from Athens, during the decade.
Aegean Airlines, Olympic Air, and Lufthansa were awarded as Airlines of the Decade based on the total scheduled number of passengers flown between 2001-2010.
