RYANAIR RELEASES DECEMBER ONLINE TRAVEL AGENTS (OTA) PIRATE SURVEY

SUPER SAVER BECOMES THE NO.1 PIRATE IN DECEMBER

OVERCHARGING CUSTOMERS €88 FOR A 10KG BAG THAT COSTS €24.99 ON RYANAIR.COM

Following Ryanair’s Nov OTA pirate scams and overcharges survey which showed Kiwi.com as the no.1 pirate in Nov, overcharging customers by a hefty 344% for €5.50 allocated seats, Ryanair, has today (6th Dec) released its Dec OTA pirate survey, which revealed Super Saver as the no.1 pirate in Dec, overcharging customers by a staggering 252% for a 10kg bag that costs €24.99 on Ryanair.com.

While Super Saver claimed the top prize for digital piracy in Dec, its fellow pirate OTAs also made the ‘consumer rip-off podium’ with Kiwi.com overcharging by 203% for priority boarding and eDreams overcharging 100% for a 10kg bag. The most conniving of all is the fake “premium service charge” of €30 that both Kiwi.com and Opodo are overcharging on a non-existent “service”.

It is unacceptable that pirate OTAs continue to prey on unsuspecting consumers with unjustified fees and charges for invented services, while at the same time grossly overcharging customers for ancillary services which are competitively priced on Ryanair.com. Ryanair continues to campaign for consumers to be protected from these overcharging and mis-selling OTA pirates and calls again on Govts and consumer agencies to take immediate action to stop OTA internet piracy.

Ryanair’s Dara Brady said:

“We have announced the findings of our Dec OTA pirate survey, as we continue to fight for consumers by exposing the scams and overcharging of these OTA pirates. Our Dec OTA pirate survey reveals that this month’s no.1 OTA pirate is Super Saver, who are overcharging customers a staggering 252% for a 10kg bag that costs just €24.99 on Ryanair.com. This is just one of the hundreds of examples whereby pirate OTAs like Kiwi.com, Lastminute.com, Opodo.com and eDreams.com, are unlawfully scraping Ryanair’s website in an act of digital piracy and then using this unlawfully obtained info to dupe and scam unsuspecting consumers with overcharges for products and services, many of which are free of charge on Ryanair.com.

Ryanair calls again on Govts and consumer agencies to take action to prevent this internet piracy and blatant anti-consumer mis-selling.”
