The Athens Digital Arts Festival is excited to announce the program for its preview edition of ADAF 2023, “Welcome to the Uncanny”. From May 12 to 14, the festival will take place in the center of Athens and present a diverse program of international artists exploring the notion of the uncanny today.
How does it relate to new technologies, algorithms and augmented reality? What is it that provokes this familiar yet disturbingly strange feeling? Can machines predict our every move, or do we still possess free will? How can we be sure of what is real and what is simulation?
Visitors can follow a route that expands from the Athinon Theater in Syntagma to the ASTOR cinema in Korai Square and the Brown Lighthouse Athens hotel in Omonoia. Along the way, they will experience robots dancing burlesque, virtual reality works, video art, and animation that reveal a dream world that is simultaneously dark and the Moon in unexpected action.
At the same time, the festival’s digital “exhibition space” at online.adaf.gr will feature web art, digital images, 360° videos, and video games that enhance the experience of the uncanny.
ADAF 2023 “Welcome to the Uncanny” invites visitors to enter a world beyond the ordinary, where artificial intelligence has taken over the physical space and the the robots co-exist with humans.
