Singapore Airlines unveiled the winner’s trophy for the 2014 FORMULA 1® SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX at a ceremony held in Singapore, last week.
The unveiling of the trophy marks Singapore Airlines’ inaugural year as Title Sponsor of the 2014 FORMULA 1® SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX. Measuring 52cm in height and 18.5cm in width, the 5kg trophy was custom-designed by SIA’s creative agency, TBWA, and hand-crafted by Singapore jewellery brand, RISIS.
Inspired by the iconic Singapore Airlines logo, the trophy embodies the common attributes between the world’s most awarded airline and the world’s most celebrated motorsport: innovation, technology and precision.
The three gold stripes, plated in 24-karat gold, represent power, direction and speed, while the clean curved lines, reminiscent of the gentle curves of a modern F1® car, imbue a touch of elegance, finesse and beauty to the 3D sculpture.
The base of the trophy embodies longevity – the original and longest-running F1® Night Race in the world – while the seven rings represent each of the seven years that the Grand Prix has been held in Singapore since 2008.
“The trophy symbolises speed and motion, lightness and agility, with an understated touch of elegance and sophistication – some of the characteristics that Singapore Airlines is synonymous with,” said SIA’s Divisional Vice President Sales & Marketing, Mr Foo Chai Woo.
SIA also revealed at today’s ceremony that the iconic Singapore Girl will make a debut appearance at this year’s Singapore Grand Prix, to give a touch of the Airline’s world-renowned hospitality to the international event. For the first time in history, around 50 Singapore Girls will be featured at the Singapore starting grid as well as on the podium for the prize presentation ceremony.
The unveiling ceremony was held at RISIS Boutique at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, where the 2014 FORMULA 1® SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX winner’s trophy will be on display until mid-September. This is the second consecutive year that RISIS has been chosen to hand-craft the coveted winners’ trophy design.
“The re-appointment is the recognition of our exacting standards, and we are thrilled about it. This is a great platform for us to show off the expertise of Singapore’s craftsmen to audiences around the world,” said Director of RISIS Pte Ltd, Mr Rehan Amarasuriya.
