The Third Athens Pilates Symposium, an annual event organized by Healthy Mind in Healthy Body, a Greek non-profit organization, NYSY Studios of Athens and international teaching academy BASI Pilates®, will be held from July 1 – July 3 at Aegli, Zappeion in downtown Athens.
The symposium, which has become a highlight of the international Pilates calendar since its inception in 2009, will feature several world-renowned teachers, including Pilates Elder Lolita San Miguel, a student of Joseph Pilates, Samantha Wood, BASI head of advanced education and a distinguished physical therapist, Theo van der Riet-Botha, BASI Pilates principal faculty from South Africa, Amit Younger, BASI faculty member based in England, and Vivi Letsou, BASI representative in Greece and a well-known yoga and Pilates teacher.
The symposium will be an intensive, four-day learning and sharing experience for Pilates professionals and serious students from around the world. Last year’s event had a record attendance of over 350 Pilates professionals from Greece and 13 other countries, including Austria, Germany, Italy, Japan and Turkey. Angie Newson, of UltraFit magazine, described it as “one of the best conferences I have attended in my 20 years of teaching/writing about fitness.”
The workshops and seminars this year will cover such topics as Healing Tips & Systemic Disorders, Skills for Teachers, Lumbar Spine Therapeutics, The Wonders of Wunda, Knee Joint Therapeutics, Balance & Alignment, Save your Neck, Shoulder Joint Therapeutics and much more. The keynote session will be Lolita San Miguel’s Tips from a Master Teacher.
The venue of the symposium will be the Aegli conference and exhibition center in the Zappeion Gardens in downtown Athens. Dating back to the 19th Century, Aegli is an Athenian landmark with an exquisite view of the Parthenon and the Saronic Gulf.
