Every year, the annual ITB Book Awards recognize the latest and most interesting publications from Germany and abroad, mainly in German, but also in German translation.
The ITB Book Awards 2022* have kicked off by honoring the large-format wall calendar ’Nordic Worlds – Ackermann Signature’ with the Travel Calendar Award. David Ruetz, jury member and head of ITB Berlin: “Every month the Swiss nature photographer Stefan Forster enchants us with his fantastic selection of photos of Iceland, the Faroes, Greenland, and Norway. What is more, they are ideal for making such magnificent, especially magical moments radiate their glory in a picture frame in one’s living room.”
Forster offers his personal views on the subject of each calendar month. Commenting on the February image entitled ’Blue hour at Disko Bay at Ilulisat’, he says “for me, the best time of day is the blue hour, the period that lies between darkness and sunrise or sunset. It is particularly rich with colour at Disko Bay in Greenland. Sometimes the sky glows in the most gorgeous red hues for up to two hours.” Stefan Forster’s photographic artistry lets us enjoy many nature spectacles such as these images of dawn and dusk, including the picturesque December photo of the Northern Lights, along with the vast glacier lakes of Iceland’s Vatnajökull in the foreground.
* Further details of the ITB Book Awards 2022 (dates, schedule etc.) will be publicised soon in an ITB Berlin press release to follow.
About the publisher:
According to the publisher, as one of Europe’s best-known nature photographers, Swiss-born Stefan Forster has travelled the entire world – and yet in his photographer’s heart, his preferred subjects are clearly amid the light and countries of the far north. Over the course of 80 voyages, he has taken photos of Iceland, Greenland, Norway, and the Faroe Islands. Nevertheless, only a small number meet Forster’s high expectations. He would rather wait for days for the right ambient light than digitally touch up his work so much as once. Experience the vastness of the Icelandic Highlands, Greenland’s majestic icebergs, and the giant cliffs of the Faroes in near movie-quality calendar images.
For almost ten years, Stefan Forster has been giving courses, teaching students from Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, and Austria the art of photography, during which he travels mainly to Scandinavia with them. Interesting and fascinating information is available at https://photocube.ch/.
