New Deal Europe, the only trade fair focused on the Balkans and South East Europe, is to host a media and destination summit on 15th March.
Director and co-founder Robert Dee said, “It became clear throughout our meetings at ITB that some markets are pushing ahead with vaccinations and will be ready to travel sooner than anticipated. I had my vaccination this week, but there are already more than 22 million people in the UK who were ahead of me in receiving their first dose, with many desperate to travel. The vaccination roll out has certainly had a major effect on the restart of tourism and we want to make sure that the destinations we represent in the Balkans are ready for this. Many made their 2021 plans at the height of restrictions last year, focusing on domestic and local markets, but these may be the last ones to benefit from the recovery, and a shift in policy and marketing spend may be required.
“Greece announced at ITB that they ar ready to receive UK visitors from May, with Romania also opening its doors to those who have a vaccination” added Tine Murn the other co-founder of New Deal Europe, “so momentum is building, and all eyes are on the Balkan region. In our summit we will be hearing from the leading travel and tourism media in both the UK and USA, countries which are spearheading the vaccination rollout, and learning how the programme has led to some strong signs of recovery. We will also get a perspective from the travel media in the EU and from the Balkans, and will be presenting this to an audience comprising national and local tourism boards, development agencies and tourism associations from across the Balkans and Suth East Europe. I am sure it will provoke some lively discussion and will lead to a review of tourism policy across the region ”
