On the occasion of the opening of the International Tourism Fair in Milan (BIT), European Commission Vice President responsible for Enterprise and Industry Antonio Tajani presented a new European gastronomy portal, which lists food fairs and festivals in Europe.
According to the last United Nations World Tourism Organisation global report, food tourism is an emerging phenomenon due to the fact that over a third of tourist spending is devoted to food.
“I am also a big fan of European cuisine and I am convinced that this new European web portal will gain many satisfied customers. Synergies between the two sectors will benefit both, gastronomy and tourism. The success of European tourism is also based on its capacity to innovate, to diversify its offers, to open new markets and to attract new clients, which in turn can strengthen the tourism sector and lead to more jobs.” said Antonio Tajani.
