One of the most popular Greek festivals in Southern California kicks off Friday, September 7 at 5pm. Actor Tom Hanks and his actress/musician wife Rita Wilson will take to the stage once again to host some of the festivities at the L.A. GreekFest. This year’s special guest is popular Greek singer Thanos Petrelis, who will be performing two nights during the festival.
With food, folk dancing, wine tasting, a marketplace and children’s activities, the event always brings out large crowds every year. Zorba Night is the theme for the opening of the festival on Friday, September 7, which goes until 11pm; admission is free. Saturday, September 8, admission is $3 and runs from 1pm-11pm. Sunday, September 9, admission is $3 and is open from noon-10pm. Children under 12 are free all days.
A raffle is also being done, offering prizes from an iPad, flat screen TV and a $2,000 dream vacation package.
The event is hosted by Saint Sophia Cathedral at 1324 S. Normandie Avenue in Los Angeles. Proceeds go to benefit ministries, charities, philanthropic programs and youth initiatives.
