UNWTO Ministers’ Summit News Conference – World Travel Market, London, UK

The UNWTO Ministers’ Summit at the World Travel Market (WTM) is an annual event and is part of the WTM’s Ministers’ Programme. For the first time the Summit will be followed by a News Conference presenting the main conclusions and outcomes and highlighting the direction the industry will take moving forward.

BACKGROUND:

With over 60 Tourism Ministers registered so far, the 2010 UNWTO Ministers’ Summit is expected to be the largest ever, providing an essential tourism leadership forum and setting the direction for an economically sustainable and ecologically carbon neutral future.

The 2010 Summit – Shaping a Stronger Travel and Tourism Industry – Governance and business models for the future – will focus on three key issues challenging the sector:

1.            Mainstreaming Tourism in the Political and Economic Agendas

2.            Creating a Competitive Framework for Tourism Development

3.            Climate Change and the Green Economy

The Summit will be moderated by CNN’s Richard Quest, an expert on business issues and one of the network’s highest profile presenters. CNN is a UNWTO media partner.

Speakers from the public sector include the Ministers of Tourism of the Bahamas, China, Egypt, Greece, Mexico, Portugal, Tunisia and the United Kingdom. The private sector will be represented by the President and CEO of WTTC, Jean-Claude Baumgarten, the Vice Chairman of Sol Meliá Hotels & Resorts (Spain), Sebastián Escarrer, the Managing Director of the Tourism and Transport Forum (Australia), Christopher Brown, the Managing Director of the Co-operative Travel Group (UK), Mike Greenacre, and the Managing Director, Northern Region, TUI Travel PLC, Johan Lundgren.
