American Airlines charges an extra fee for Express Seats

American Airlines an extra charge fee for Express SeatsAccording to an article in “Los Angeles Times/Travel”, if you want to be in the first boarding group and sit in the first few rows on your next coast-to-coast flight (with American Airlines)? Now you can -– for a fee.
Express Seats, available only on domestic flights, are sold only through self-service check-in at the airport,  from 24 hours to 50 minutes before the flight leaves. In other words, you can’t book this in advance when you buy your ticket.
“Express Seats highlights American’s focus on offering customers what they value most,” Virasb Vahidi, the airline’s chief commercial officer, said in a statement announcing the option.
But some industry watchers, such as Joe Brancatelli of the online business travel site JoeSentMe.com, contend that the fees serve to complicate pricing for consumers, according to a CNN report.
The Express Seats feature joins a suite of Your Choice options from American that include a $10 charge each way to be among the first group  of passengers to board — but without the guaranteed seat in the first rows. (The airline points to this perk as a chance to “gain more time to store carry-on luggage,” not hog all the space in the overhead bins.) This option also is available at self-service check-in.
