André Blattmann, former Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS). He will take up his position on 1 January 2018. Blattmann succeeds Montie Brewer, who will step down from the Board at the end of this year. Current Board member Jacques Aigrain will also be relinquishing his mandate in mid-2018. André Blattmann, former Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces with the rank of Lieutenant General was appointed to the SWISS Board of Directors at the company’s Annual General Meeting yesterday (16 November). Blattmann (61) will take up his new duties on 1 January 2018. He succeeds Montie Brewer, who will step down from the Board at the end of 2017. Further current Board member Jacques Aigrain will also be relinquishing his mandate in mid-2018.
After training in commerce and earning an HWV Degree in Business Administration, André Blattmann went on to complete a Master’s in Business Administration at Zurich University. He was admitted to the Swiss Armed Forces’ flying and anti-aircraft troops’ instructor corps in 1984, and served as an instructor at recruit schools for anti-aircraft troops. He went on to hold various further positions (including some outside Switzerland), before being appointed Deputy Chief of the Armed Forces in 2008 and Chief of the Armed Forces the following year. He left the Swiss Armed Forces at the end of 2016. “In André Blattmann we have secured the services of an individual who is highly regarded in business and political circles and can draw on extensive expertise and experience in both high-level leadership and international economics,” says Reto Francioni, Chairman of the SWISS Board of Directors. “We are delighted that he has accepted our invitation to serve on our Board.”

Montie Brewer, who joined our Board in 2013, has also contributed his comprehensive knowledge of the airline industry to the Board and its deliberations. And to him, too, we offer our sincere thanks.”
Following these personnel changes, the SWISS Board of Directors will consist of Reto Francioni (Chairman), Lufthansa Group representatives Harry Hohmeister and Ulrik Svensson as well as Doris Russi Schurter and André Blattmann.
