NEW NONSTOP LAX TO SHANGHAI AIR SERVICE RECOGNIZED AS “ROUTE OF THE WEEK” FOR ECONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE TO COMMUNITIES

Los Angeles International AirportLos Angeles World Airports, Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), and United Airlines have received the Enterprise Award for Route of the Week from Airline Network News and Analysis (www.anna.aero) for the airline’s new daily, nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Shanghai Pudong, which started May 20.  The award from ANNA, an on-line, air-service-network planning and intelligence website with over 60,000 aviation-industry subscribers recognizes “new routes of special economic significance to the communities served.”
Local economists estimate the new air service will contribute over $350 million annually to the Southern California economy, and directly and indirectly support over 1,700 new jobs throughout the region.  United has recently stepped up its expansion of China routes and this is the airline’s third route to the Chinese city, which it already serves from Chicago O’Hare and San Francisco. The Star Alliance airline operates the route daily with 777-200ER aircraft.
